Use the timeline and add custom events
How the one timeline records changes from Shopify, Meta, Google Ads and Klaviyo, and how to filter it, add custom events and add why.

Fabrik Analytics keeps one timeline per brand. Every change from Shopify, Meta, Google Ads and Klaviyo lands on it, with the custom events your team adds, and every chart and Intelligence read from the same list.
Before you start
- Markers on charts, the timeline drawer and custom events are on every plan.
- Intelligence's Timeline page needs a role that can view Intelligence and a plan that includes it. Agency staff and brands covered by their agency's plan are never locked.
Ways to open the timeline
- On a chart: markers above a chart show the days with changes. Switch them on or off with Changes on.
- The Timeline button at the top of a page opens the timeline drawer for the page's period.
- Intelligence: choose Intelligence, then Timeline, for the full page.
- Home: Since your last visit counts changes since you last looked, with Open the timeline.
Step by step: add a custom event
Use a custom event for things the platforms cannot see: a launch, a sale, press coverage, a stock drop or a site change.
- Open the brand's Dashboard.
- Open the menu beside Timeline and choose Add event. (Agency staff can also use Add note on Home's Account row.)
- Enter a Title, for example "New product page went live" (up to 200 characters).
- Choose a Category: Note, Campaign, Product, Website or Other.
- Set the Date and Time. Tick It runs over a date range to add an End date and End time.
- Add Notes (optional): what changed and why, the context a reader will need later.
- Choose Save. The event appears on the timeline, the charts and Intelligence's What was changed, marked with the Fabrik Analytics icon.
Step by step: add why a change was made
- Open the timeline drawer or the Timeline page and find the change.
- Choose Add why.
- Type the reason, for example "Moved budget to the best seller before the sale."
- Save it. The reason shows under the change wherever it appears, with who wrote it. Use Edit or Remove to change your own.
What you will see
- Changes grouped by day, newest first, with Before and after for what changed.
- Filters for Platform, Team, Level, Change, Who and Person, a Search changes box and Jump to date. Underlined days have changes.
- On the Timeline page, a summary beside the list: changes By platform, Who made them (your agency, External, App or Not named, for agency staff), and how many changes an open Intelligence finding names as a candidate cause, with See them on Actions.
Troubleshooting
- "Nothing was changed in this period": no custom events and no platform changes were recorded for these dates. Choose a longer period.
- "No changes match": choose Clear filters.
- "The timeline could not be loaded": this is a fault, not a sign nothing changed. The changes are still recorded. Try again in a moment.
- "The event could not be saved.": check the title is filled in and the end is not before the start.
