Read your post-purchase survey results

How to read Customers, Survey: the four tiles, one question at a time as bars or a donut, the filters, and every response with its order.

3 min readUpdated 7 October 2026

The post-purchase survey appears on Shopify's Thank you page. Customers, Survey shows what buyers answered, one question at a time, and lists every response with its order.

Before you start

  • Viewing results needs a role that can view commerce and a plan that includes the survey (Growth or higher). Agency staff and brands covered by their agency's plan are never locked.
  • The survey is switched on, and any answers of your own are added, in Settings, Survey, by people who may manage the survey.
  • The survey must be switched on and published, and the survey block added to your Thank you page in Shopify. See Set up the post-purchase survey.

Step by step

  1. Open the brand and choose Customers, then Survey.
  2. Pick the period and comparison in the date control.
  3. Use the filters at the top to narrow every figure: Customer (New customers or Returning customers), Country and Channel.
  4. Choose a question from the drop-down. It opens on Where did you first hear about us?.
  5. Switch between Bar and Donut.
  6. Choose a bar, a slice or an answer chip to list only the responses that gave that answer. Choose it again to list every response.

What you will see

Four tiles

TileWhat it counts
Customers who answeredEach answered order once, whichever questions were answered
Response rateCustomers who answered over the period's orders, under the brand's Shopify filter
Revenue coveredThe value of the answered orders, each order once
Answered order valueRevenue covered divided by answered orders: the average order of those who answered

Each tile has a help mark explaining how it is counted.

The question

The answers as bars sorted by count, or as a donut. Under the chart, each answer shows its count and share, and with a comparison, its change once there are enough answers.

Responses

Every response to the chosen question, newest first: Date, Order (linking to the order record), Answer, Written answer (when the customer chose Other and wrote their own), Customer (linking to their record, with New or Returning), Order value, Country and Channel.

Survey answers elsewhere

The same answers appear on the order record's Attribution tab and the customer record's Behaviour tab. Paid Media has a card comparing where buyers say they first heard of you with what last click credits.

Troubleshooting

  • "No answers in this period": choose a longer range.
  • "No answers match these filters": clear a filter or choose a longer range.
  • "Survey figures failed to load": no rates or revenue are shown rather than wrong ones. Try again in a moment.
  • No answers at all after publishing: in Shopify, open Settings, Checkout, Customise and confirm the Fabrik Post-Purchase Survey block sits on the Thank you page.

Frequently asked questions

Which questions does the survey ask?

Every brand asks the same four: Where did you first hear about us? (the one required question), What almost stopped you from buying today?, What made you choose us over the alternatives? and Where else did you consider buying?. Asking the same questions means results compare across brands.

Can I rename or remove an answer?

No. Shared answers are locked so every brand's results compare. You can add answers of your own in Settings, Survey.

Why does a share not change even though the comparison is on?

A change is only shown once a question has enough answers in both periods. Below that, the gap could be chance, so no change is shown.

Why can the shares add up to more than 100%?

On a question where customers may pick more than one answer, each answer's share is of the question's responses, so shares can add up to more than 100%.

An answer arrived before its order. Is it lost?

No. Answers are matched to their orders when you look, so an answer given before its order reached Fabrik Analytics is counted once the order arrives.

Why does it say The survey is not live?

The survey is switched off. Switch it on and publish it in Settings, Survey. Answers appear once customers start answering.

Why are answers shown in a different order to each customer?

Answers are shuffled for each shopper so the first option is not favoured. Other, Nothing and Nowhere else always come last.
