Why does the pixel show no traffic?

What to check when the Website page shows no sessions or Tracking says no events: the data processing agreement, the web pixel, consent and permissions.

3 min readUpdated 7 October 2026

The Website page and the funnel rely on the Fabrik pixel. If they show "No sessions in this period", "No sessions yet today", or the Tracking tab says "No events received yet", work through these checks.

Before you start

  • Open the brand, then Settings, Tracking, and find Tracking Status.
  • Accepting the agreement, registering the pixel and server-side tracking are open to agency staff and to the owner of a brand that runs itself without an agency.

Step 1: read Tracking Status

The badge reads Fully Active, Action Needed or Not Connected. Below it, the last event time and the last 24 hours split into web pixel events and order webhooks.

  • Not Connected: connect Shopify first.
  • Action Needed: one of the four steps is not done. Look for the step marked as needing action.

Step 2: is the data processing agreement accepted?

Step 2, Data Processing Agreement must read "Accepted" and a date. The pixel waits for it. If it reads "Accept the DPA to enable tracking.", tick the agreement and click Accept DPA. If your agency manages the brand, the step names the agency that records it with you: ask your account lead.

Step 3: is the web pixel registered?

Step 3, Shopify Web Pixel should read "Active, Fabrik appears under Settings → Customer events".

  • If it says "The store's Shopify authorisation is missing the pixel permissions.", open Fabrik Analytics from Apps in your Shopify admin, approve anything Shopify asks for, then click Re-check.
  • If it is not registered, click Register web pixel.
  • In Shopify admin, open Settings, Customer events and check Fabrik Analytics is listed and connected.

Step 4: test it

  1. Under Verify tracking, click Verify tracking. Your store opens in a new tab.
  2. In that tab, accept analytics in the cookie banner if one appears, then browse a page or two.
  3. Within 60 seconds you should see "Event received, tracking is working."

"No events received after 60s." means the pixel is not sending from that browser. Try a private window with no ad blocker, and make sure you accepted analytics.

The pixel respects your store's consent banner. Shoppers who decline analytics are not tracked. A strict banner, or a store with many visitors from regions that require opt-in, will show noticeably fewer sessions than Shopify.

What you will see once it works

  • Tracking Status shows a recent last event and a count of web pixel events in 24 hours.
  • The Website page shows sessions from the first visits, with the current hour almost immediately.
  • Visits carry their campaign tags, so channels appear correctly if your links are tagged.

Still nothing?

  • A Tracking message saying "Event counts failed to load" is a problem reading the counts, not a sign tracking stopped. Reload the page.
  • If the store was recently reinstalled, click Re-sync settings on Step 3.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to add code to my theme for the pixel?

No. The Fabrik pixel is a Shopify web pixel and appears in Shopify admin under Settings, Customer events. It is registered through the app connection.

Why is my visitor count lower than Shopify's?

The pixel sends nothing for shoppers who have not allowed analytics in your consent banner, and some browsers block tracking. Shopify counts sessions its own way too, so the two will not match exactly.

Orders are arriving but traffic is empty. Why?

Orders come from Shopify's order notifications, which do not need the pixel. Empty traffic with orders arriving means the web pixel itself is not registered or not sending. Check Step 3 on the Tracking tab.

How quickly does traffic appear after setup?

Within a minute or two of the first visit. Use Verify tracking on the Tracking tab to check straight away.

Can I see traffic from before the pixel was set up?

No. The pixel records visits from the moment it starts. Orders, which come from Shopify, still load for the past 12 months.
