Set notification defaults for a brand, portfolio or agency

Choose which emails and in-app notifications people at a brand, portfolio or agency get by default, including an agency's defaults for clients.

3 min readUpdated 7 October 2026

Each brand, portfolio and agency has notification defaults: which emails and in-app notifications people there receive unless they have chosen for themselves. Setting good defaults means new people get the right messages from day one.

Before you start

Who can change the defaults:

WorkspaceWho can change them
AgencyThe agency's owner and directors
BrandAgency staff who can set up the brand, or the owner of a brand run without an agency
PortfolioThe portfolio's agency staff, or its owner where they may edit portfolio settings

Everyone else who can open the page sees the defaults read only. Notification settings are never locked by plan.

Step by step: brand or portfolio defaults

  1. Open the brand (or portfolio) and choose Settings, Notifications.
  2. Read the line at the top: it says these are defaults for everyone who has not chosen for themselves.
  3. Find the notification in its group, for example Reports or Alerts.
  4. Switch the Email or In app switch on or off. A message confirms the notification is now on or off by default.
  5. To start again, select Reset to standard defaults.

Step by step: agency defaults and defaults for clients

  1. In the agency, open Settings, Notifications.
  2. The page has two parts:
    • Your agency (shown with the agency's name): the agency's own notifications, such as its plan, its people and clients joining or leaving.
    • Defaults for your clients: reports, Klaviyo, high-value orders and access requests. These apply to every client the agency manages, unless a brand sets its own.
  3. Switch each Email or In app setting as needed.

The columns

  • Email: sent by email. Optional emails carry a link at the foot to stop receiving them.
  • In app: shown in the bell in the app, for the notifications that support it.
  • Slack: where the notification posts today, if anywhere, with a link to the setting that chooses the channel. Change the channel there, not here.

Not sent in a column means the notification is never sent that way. Account and security emails are not listed: as the page says, they always go.

What you will see

  • Your change applies straight away to everyone at the workspace who has not set their own preference.
  • A person's own choices, made in My profile, Notifications, always win over these defaults.
  • On a brand or portfolio whose plan is paid by the agency or through a portfolio, a note explains that plan and payment emails go there instead.

Troubleshooting

  • "Only the people who manage this workspace's settings can change these." Ask the agency owner or the brand's owner.
  • "Notifications could not be read": select Try again. If it repeats, email support@fabrik.ae.
  • Someone still gets an email you switched off. They have chosen to receive it in their own settings, or it is a mandatory email such as a payment failure sent to billing contacts.

Frequently asked questions

If I switch a notification off here, does nobody get it?

No. These are defaults for people who have not chosen for themselves. Anyone who has set their own preference in My profile, Notifications keeps it.

Why can I not switch off sign-in and security emails?

Account and security emails, such as password changes and two-factor changes, always go, so they are not listed on this page. In My profile, Notifications they appear as Always sent.

Why can I see the settings but not change them?

Only the people who manage that workspace's settings can change its defaults. For an agency that is its owner and directors. Everyone else sees them read only.

How do I change where Slack notifications post?

The Slack column shows where each notification posts today and links to the setting that chooses the channel, such as the brand's Slack channel in Settings, Integrations. There is no Slack switch on this page.

What are Defaults for your clients on the agency page?

Defaults that apply to every client the agency manages, such as reports, Klaviyo alerts, high-value orders and access requests. A brand can set its own, which then wins for that brand.

Why do plan and payment emails not show on a brand?

When the brand's plan is paid by its agency or through its portfolio, plan and payment emails go to whoever pays, so the brand's page says so and leaves them out.

Can I undo my changes?

Yes. Reset to standard defaults puts every notification back to the standard setting for that workspace.
