How are currencies converted?

Which currency each figure starts in, how Fabrik converts it to your reporting currency at each day's rate, and how to change the currency shown.

Your Shopify store, each ad account and Klaviyo may all work in different currencies. Fabrik Analytics brings them into one currency so they can be added up and compared.

Before you start

  • Each brand has a reporting currency, set in Settings, Financial (AED, BHD, EUR, GBP, HKD, QAR, SAR or USD). Changing it needs access to the brand's Settings.
  • A portfolio has its own reporting currency, set in the portfolio's Settings, Financial.

Where each figure starts

FigureStarting currency
Shopify sales, orders, refundsYour store's own currency (Shopify's shop money). What a buyer paid at checkout in another currency has already been converted by Shopify.
Meta and Google Ads spend and revenueThe ad account's own currency.
Klaviyo revenueAs Klaviyo reports it for your account.
Agency financeGBP.

How conversion works

  • Every amount is converted at that day's exchange rate. A 30-day period is 30 days, each converted on its own day, then added up.
  • Rates are refreshed daily.
  • Ratios such as ROAS and MER are worked out after conversion, so spend and sales are in the same currency first.
  • On Markets, each order is converted from its own order's shop currency, which matters if your store ever changed currency.

A worked example

Fellwick reports in GBP and runs Meta from an account billed in EUR. On Monday it spends 1,000 EUR at a rate of 0.85, and on Tuesday 1,000 EUR at 0.86. Fabrik shows Monday 850 GBP and Tuesday 860 GBP, a total of 1,710 GBP.

Step by step: change the currency shown

  1. On any page with money, find the currency menu in the command bar (a coins icon with the currency code).
  2. Under Display currency, choose one of:
    • Brand (with the brand's code), the reporting currency;
    • Agency (GBP);
    • an ad account's currency, listed by platform, when it differs from the brand's;
    • USD or EUR.
  3. The page redraws in that currency. Your choice is remembered in this browser.

Step by step: change a brand's reporting currency

  1. Open the brand's Settings, then Financial.
  2. Choose the Reporting currency.
  3. Save. Summed figures across the app now default to it.

Troubleshooting

  • A campaign table total differs from the Paid Media tile. Check both are in the same currency in the currency menu.
  • Figures in a currency look identical to the original. Fabrik holds daily rates for AED, BHD, EUR, GBP, HKD, QAR, SAR and USD. If your store or ad account uses another currency, email support@fabrik.ae so we can check the conversion.
  • Targets look far off after a currency change. Re-enter money targets in the new reporting currency on Trading, Targets.

Frequently asked questions

Which exchange rate is used?

Each day's rate for that day. A sale or ad spend on 3 March is converted at 3 March's rate, so a month's total is the sum of each day converted on its own day, not the month's total at one rate.

Can I see ad spend in the ad account's own currency?

Yes. Open the currency menu in the command bar. If an ad account uses a different currency from the brand, it is listed by platform, for example Meta (AED), and choosing it shows amounts in that currency.

Which reporting currencies can a brand use?

Any currency Fabrik holds daily rates for: AED, BHD, EUR, GBP, HKD, QAR, SAR or USD. It is chosen in Settings, Financial under Reporting currency.

Does changing the reporting currency change my targets?

No. Targets are stored as the numbers you entered. If you change the reporting currency, re-enter money targets in the new currency, or attainment will compare figures in one currency with targets in another.

Why does the currency menu remember my choice?

The choice is kept in your browser, so pages open in the currency you last picked. Choose Brand to go back to the brand's reporting currency.

What currency do portfolio pages use?

The portfolio's own reporting currency, set in the portfolio's Settings, Financial. Each brand's figures are converted to it at each day's rate.
